Nikki Giovanni - We celebrate renowned poet, activist and educator who was a prominent voice in literature and Black culture. Known for her outspoken advocacy for justice and equality, her work continues to inspire and demonstrate the power of words.

And we close with Judy Smith: The Original Inspiration behind the hit TV series, Scandal.

Smith, a visionary public relations professional, served as the original muse for Olivia Pope.

Smith's innovative approach to crisis management and strategic storytelling became the blueprint for the show's character. Her impact goes beyond the screen, influencing real-world PR practices and inspiring a new generation of Black women to pursue careers in the industry. Some of her achievements include:

  • Strategic Crisis Management: Smith’s ability to navigate and deftly manage high-stakes crises earned her a reputation as an industry leader. Her strategic thinking and poise under pressure set a standard for crisis management that remains revered today.

  • Advocacy for the Underrepresented: Smith champions diversity and inclusion within the PR industry. She actively works to create opportunities for underrepresented voices, paving the way for a more inclusive field in the world of PR.

  • Innovative Storytelling: Smith’s knack for crafting compelling narratives transformed the landscape of public relations. Her innovative storytelling techniques continue to captivate audiences and reshape how brands communicate with the public.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we acknowledge the countless Black women who have paved the way for a more inclusive and dynamic PR industry.

This Black History Month, The Saunders PR Group salutes these trailblazers and the many Black women who are redefining the industry every day.  Let us continue to celebrate their achievements and work towards a more diverse and inclusive future in public relations.
